X-ray and soft γ-ray spectra of Broad-Line Radio Galaxies
We study X-ray and soft γ-ray spectral properties of nearby Broad-Line Radio Galaxies (BLRGs) using data from Ginga, ASCA, OSSE and EXOSAT. The X-ray spectra are well fitted by an intrinsic power-law continuum with an energy index of α ∼ 0.7, moderately absorbed by a cold medium. In addition, the Ginga spectra show fluorescent Fe Kα lines with an average equivalent width of ∼ 100 eV, and, in so...
متن کاملSoft X-ray Properties of Narrow-line Seyfert 1 Galaxies
We report on AGN with extremely soft X-ray spectra observed with ROSAT. From their optical emission lines these objects are classiied as narrow-line Seyfert 1 galaxies (NLS1), almost all with extremely large Fe ii/H ratios and relatively narrow optical lines of hydrogen. Our results are based on a systematic ROSAT study of 46 NLS1. 32 of these are located in the elds of view of ROSAT pointings ...
متن کاملBroad Line Radio Galaxies: Jet Contribution to the nuclear X-Ray Continuum
It is shown that, for Broad Line Radio Galaxies the strength of the nonthermal beamed radiation, when present, is always smaller than the accretion flow by a factor < 0.7 in the 2-10 keV band. The result has been obtained using the procedure adopted for disentangling the Flat Spectrum Radio Quasar 3C 273 (Grandi & Palumbo 2004) Although this implies a significantly smaller nonthermal flux in Ra...
متن کاملX-Ray Observations of Radio Galaxies
We review some of the ways that X-ray observations provide unique information on radio galaxies. Thermal bremsstrahlung X-ray emission provides detailed data on ambient densities and temperatures. These parameters in turn can be used for pressure balance calculations and can demonstrate how the ambient gas affects radio source structure. Additionally, many signatures of the interaction of radio...
متن کاملBroad-Band Soft X-ray Polarimetry
We developed an instrument design capable of measuring linear X-ray polarization over a broad-band using conventional spectroscopic optics. A set of multilayer-coated ats reects the dispersed X-rays to the instrument detectors. The intensity variation with position angle is measured to determine three Stokes parameters: I, Q, and U – all as a function of energy. By laterally grading the multila...
